The resulting Kellogg-Briand Pact proved to be an exercise in utter futility, notably marked by the outbreak of World War II, history’s worst conflict. Last Thursday, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that he would formally recognize a Palestinian state in September. And this week, his government seeks to advance that cause by co-sponsoring with Saudi Arabia what might be called Kellogg-Briand 2.0 – another act of delusional diplomacy at a UN conference in New York.

While al-Sharaa – whose presidency has been recognized and rewarded with sanctions relief by President Trump – professes to condemn such crimes against humanity and disavows any connection to their perpetrators, in reality, the jihadists are, at best, tolerated by his government, if it is not actually fully complicit in their rampages.
